Is your cat right pawed or lefty?
Researchers at Animal Behavior Centre at Queen’s University in Belfast found that cats do favor one paw over the other and that there is a gender bias. They also found that female cats tend to use their right paw more and that male cats use their left paw more frequently. This research was published in tthe journal of Animal Behaviour". You can determine if your cat is right or left pawed by observing things like which first step does your cat take into the cat litter or which first step it takes going down the stairs. Pets are considered more and more as family members. In January 2017, Alaska has become the first state in the country to consider the well being of the animals and empowers judges to assign custody over pets. The court can now award custody on the basis of what is best for the pet and not necessarily what is best for the human owner. The Alaska bill will also allow courts to issue protective orders in domestic violence cases and require the owners who neglect their pets to pay cost of the pet’s shelter. (1/20/2017)

Feline Care Awareness Week
August 16 through August 22 is Take Your Cat to the Vet Week . Cats need an annual veterinarian exam. They are more likely than dogs to mask the signs of sickness/injury. Things to look out for : Cat spending the day under the bed who normally does not, a cat with a previously healthy appetite eats much less or not all, or an active pet that no longer seems interested in playing with toys. These maybe signs of more serious problems.
